Foe the production of my magazine, I took a series of photographers of the model/artist for the magazine on a Canon DSLR camera. In the images below it shows the photographer setting up the image and taking the photographs. What is also shown is a series of images that where take but not used and why they were not used, and the body copy of the article that what written up.
These are images of the photographer Yllka Humolli setting up the camera and making sure that it works, for example making sure that it is in the right settings, has enough battery and contains an SD
card. This is important as it can stop problems being caused, which can then lead to time being wasted.
In this image the photographer is making sure that the camera lens is in focus and that the quality of the images come out perfect. The photographer is also checking that the zoom quality is working and that the image comes out correctly. This is important so that the photographs are a good quality and worthy of being used for the magazine. In these two images the photographer was also taking images in order to make sure that the focus was good and the picture quality was correct. It is also important that the photographer does this because it prepares the camera before the shoot, meaning that less time is taken up, everything is really for use and so that the photographer can begin the photoshoot as soon as possible.
This is the photograph that we are using for the front cover. We are going to use this photo because the artist is looking directly at the lens, making it seem like the model is looking directly at the reader. Also because the image is a straight mid-shot and the artist stands out from the colorful background the image itself without the titles attracts the primary target audience, which is 16-20 year olds. We are doing this so that we can meet the client brief and so we could fulfill every requirement that the client gave us, for example showcasing the new talent in North London, creating original content and to create a front cover for a North London based music magazine.
This is the photograph that we are using for the double page spread. We are using this photo because the artist is looking directly at the lens, making it seem like the artist is looking directly at the reader. Also because the image is a straight full body shot and the artist stands out from the colorful background the image itself without the the primary target audience and the readers having to read the content. We are doing this so that we can meet the client brief and so we could fulfill every requirement that the client gave us, for example showcasing the new talent in North London, creating original content and to create a double page spread for a North London based music magazine.
The images that I have chosen above have the power to connect with the target audience, which can then attract the target audience and make them want to buy and read the magazine, especially if they are fans of the artist or just fans of RnB in general. This is because in both images the photographer took a straight shot where the artists face is clearly shown and the artist is look directly into the lens, this can then make it seem like the artist is looking directly at the reader, which will interest the target audience/reader more.
These are some of the images that we did not use for the front cover or double page spread.
We decided not to use this first image due to the positioning of the artist. This is because the position the looks awkward and uncomfortable and we did not want to portray the artist in this way. We wanted to portray the artist as a lay backed and with a cool exterior. This then links to the client requirements as we want to represent North London as we felt link this didn't do that.
We decided not to use this image due to the lighting of the image. This is because due to the lighting the image looks dark and foggy. This then leads to the image not being a good enough quality for the front cover of a magazine. Because of this factor it would have made it more difficult for us to fulfill the client requirements.
We decided not to use this image due to the artist not looking at the camera. This is because we want the magazine to attract readers and if the artist is not looking at the camera, it will make it seem as if the artist is disinterested and it stops the image from happing some sort of connection or link with the readers. Also if the artist is looking at the reader is makes the magazine more appealing. Because of this factor it would have made it more difficult for us to fulfill the client requirements, for example making the magazine successful.
The article:
We interviewed RnB artist Tahlia Lorenz to find out about her new music, who inspired her and her song writing process. The 17-year-old artist is planning to make her mark in the music industry.
Interviewer: what influence you to become an RnB Artist?
Tahlia Lorenz: There are many things that influenced me to become an artist, for example when I was younger all I did was sing and dance and basically just do anything that had to do with music, whether it was join a choir or be involved in the school musicals, but most recently I realized the impact music can have on people especially the fans, for example a song of mine that may be about heartbreak may resonate with someone else because of their experiences in life. Not just that but if I have a more uplifting or happy song people also connect with that because it makes them happy. The music I release also impacts me, when I write a song its like a therapy session, it honestly helps me to overcome and let go of any hardships and challenging that I may be facing, but it also lets me express my happiness. The impact that, not just my music but music in general has on people influences me; it pushes me to continue creating music and to become a better artist.
I: what artists have influenced you?
TL: So many artists have influenced me; it ranges from Beyoncé to Sam Smith. But two of my biggest influences are Aaliyah and Tupac.
I: Why is that? Why those two out of everyone?
TL: Because even though they both didn’t have enough time to express everything that they may have believed in or need to say, they both made large impacts on the world, especially Tupac. Aaliyah influenced me because I grew up listening to her even though she had passed, everyday I listened to her think ‘that’s what I want to do, I want to be just like her’. I loved and idolised her, I mean she constantly influences me whether it is via music or fashion. It’s a shame that she passed when she did because she was at her prime and at the top. What influenced me most was that she managed to somehow put together RnB and Hip Hop; she was one of the first females to sing smooth R&B vocals over hip-hop beats.
I: And how did Tupac influence you?
TL: Pac influences me though he music and the way that he delivered his music. He really made people feel like whatever he said was true. Not only that but he wanted people to see what he saw, and in all honestly we all did and still do, that is the influence he had on people. Not only that but the knowledge he had and spoke to the world. Yes he got arrested but if you listen to what he speaks about you realise the things he were saying where intellectual and correct. He once said, “Reality is wrong. Dreams are for real.” And I really connect and resonate with that. What he is saying is true, my reality was wrong for me, I mean I was supposed to become a lawyer, but I focused on my dreams and realised that the only way that I could truly be happy is if I followed my dream and then that fantasy became my reality, it became real. I have never been more grateful and appreciative of something, and I know its all down to my fans who have stood by me for all these years.
I: what do you hope to achieve in the music industry?
TL: I hope to influence people to see things differently, to allow them to develop and love everyone with all they have. I also hope that my music about self confidence and girl power give my fans and girls around the world the confidence to love themselves and to influence them to stick together and to prove wrong that constant stereotype of girls that girls are argumentative and spiteful towards each other. I also hope to win a Grammy, as do all artists, and hopeful reach my fullest potential.
I: If you had the opportunity to collaborate with any one who would it be?
TL: Wow that is a difficult question.
I: I know I could never pick
TL: I would want to collaborate with Tupac because I think that we could create music that influences every one. We could have really changed the game. However on a more realistic note I would want to collaborate with either Nicki Minaj, because she is the queen of rap and she is also an idol of mine, I would also love to collaborate with the up and coming artist Billie Ellish, because I love her music and her voice is really unique. It would be an incredible collaboration. The last people I would want to collaborate with is Stormzy, firstly because he is a G and because his music is incredible and if we did a collaboration it would really be game changing.
I: What is your songwriting process?
TL: I actually carry around a journal that I write in when ever I have a lyric idea or song idea. I also take inspiration from things around personal experience as they make the best stories and those stories help me to think of lyrics that relate to my fans. I also get together with other songwriters and spit out lyrics, ideas and themes that somehow are shaped and molded into songs that make sense. I then go and record those songs on top of beats that a producer creates.
I: Finally have you got any new music coming out:
TL: I do actually, unfortunately I cannot say when but very soon and the fans will be pleased. I put a lot of effort into this album, I mean I’ve put in blood, sweat and tears into it, I’m not even joking. I also will have a tour in the next couple month supporting Ella Mia and on that tour the new album that I’m releasing will be part of the set list as well as unreleased songs and previous songs.
I: wow you have a lot going on this year.
TL: Yeah I do its going to be a hell of a year.
I: well good luck and have the best time possible
TL: Thank you

These are the thumbnails for my project. I took many images and have explained above the ones I did use and main images that I deliberated over and the images that I deliberately did not choose.
The Codes and Conventions:
The Codes and Conventions:
The codes and conventions that we included
on the magazines front page is that we included a masthead to announce the
title of the magazine and represent the genre that the magazine is (RnB). We
also included strap lines and skylines at the top of the magazine and the bottom
of the magazine so that we could include more information and content for the
readers so that they are more interested in the magazine, when they first look
at it. On the front page we also included cover lines to show and very brief
explanation the content that is inside the magazine, as well as try to inform
the readers of what’s inside the magazine. And finally the image of the
featured artist so that the readers will know who the feature is and what type
of genre the magazine is.
The codes and conventions that we included
on the double page spread are the image of the artist so that it is clear whom
the double page spread is about, we also included a title/headline of the
artist's name so that it is clear who the double page spread is about. And we
included columns, which contain the article and the content of the double page
spread in a neat order. As well as this we also included numbers on the bottom
corners of the pages so that it is clear which page is which and because it
makes it more formal and professional.
Using Q magazine as an example for my magazine cover. The code and convention that i followed from Q magazine is their style of having the magazine name/logo in the top left corner so that it was out of the way yet still very visible to the reader, we included a masthead to announce the title of the magazine and represent the genre that the magazine is (RnB).
We also followed Q's cover line code and convention method so that we could include as much information as we could onto the front cover of the magazine, without making it look messy and unprofessional.
We also decided to follow De La Soul's Three Feet Under album colour as they used a lot of primary colours that represent the more chill out vibe of their album. We used the code and conventions of early 90s hip hop so that we could reflect it onto the front cover and double spread page. You can see this with the clothing, accessories and the background of the image. In the image Tahlia Lorenz is wearing small sunglasses that where highly popular in the 90s, as well as a vintage white Ralph Lauren oversized jumper that was also trendy in the 90s. The background colours represent the different moods of RnB as well as look ascetically pleasing to the reader.
