Generate ideas (P1:U21, M1:U21)
LO 1 (U21): Be able to generate ideas for an original media product based on a client brief (P1:U21, M1:U21)
How I have interpreted the client's brief - requirements.
- Within the brief we have to create a North London based Magazine. This is an explicit requirement that has been given to us by the client, meaning that our magazine has to be North London based.
- In the magazine we have to include music that is based around North London, for example venues, up and coming artists, bands and solo artists that are from North London. This is an implicit requirement that has been given to us by the client, this allows us to make more open decisions, for example pick the genre of the magazine as long as it is part of North London.
- We have to create a front cover and a double page spread based of the research we collect on North London. This is an explicit requirement that has been given to us by the client, this means that we have to create a front cover an a double page spread for the client.
My first thought for possible ideas following your interpretation
- My first ideas, were based around gathering information about up and coming artists from north London and interviewing them and creating a double page spread about the new talent in north London.
- Display Up and Coming Musicians in the magazine
- Reviews of artists and venues with ratings and first hand reviews
- Interview with the main artists (1 on 1 question and answer, research based features or interview with imbedded questions)
My three key ideas are
- My first idea is to interview an artist with embedded questions and to gather as much information from that interview about upcoming music, events, campaigns and tours they may have in the near possible future. Because the Magazine is based in North London the artists will most likely be already known and established artists that are from North London, an example being Dua Lipa, or they may be less known up and coming artists from North London who are just getting started or has some what of a fan base, an example would be Not3s. I think that the target audience will really relate and be connected to the article and the answers that the artist may give, because of the way that the embedded questions are asked and because the article will seem like a conversation instead of it looking like a q and a interview.
- My second idea is to Review artists from North London, review their performances at events and their music. I will also be reviewing venues in North London based on who performances at these venues, popularity and overall setting. The reviews will be first hand reviews and ratings between 1-5 1 being the worst and 5 being the best. The target audience will be interested in the reviews and this will help them to make decisions based on the reviews about going to certain concerts and buying certain artists albums.
- My final idea is to do research based features, as I can gather as much research as I can on the artist and create a article that will be interesting for the readers and fans of that particular artist. The research will be accurate and non biased, meaning that it wont be used for deformation in any way as that can then cause legal issues between the artists and the writer of the article. When doing research based features the target audience will relate and gain information and knowledge on the featured artist, this will then perhaps make them feel more connected with the artists. This is a positive effect for the target audience.
Because of the selected target audience, which is 16-20 year olds, we have to consider what they would want in a magazine. From research we found out that girls listen to RnB more than boys, however if there is a rap or grime feature on the song then boys will listen to the song. This then means that we also need to consider what boys would be interested in and what they would want, in order to achieve customer satisfaction and have constant repeat readers. But we also have to consider the what the client requirements are, for example because the magazine has to be North London based, we will include artists that are from North London and we will include venues in North London to promote them, this is one method of gaining revenue that we are going to use.
To conclude my final idea with either be the interview with embedded questions as that has a large strength to is even though the weakness is just as hard or it will be the research based features of an artist as it seems like a great way of creating an article that gives information as well as entertains the readers. Because of the client requirements the artists will be from North London, we will include images and we will have an online version of the magazine so that the magazine can be assessed anywhere and because it is more convenient, due to the young demographic using social media and their phones, we are aiming to meet all these requirements.
