LO 4 (U3): Be able to carry out post-production techniques and processes for an original media product to a client brief. P5 (U3) M4 (U3) D1 (U3)
When the editing team first started creating the front cover of the magazine we zoomed into the image and cropped it so that the focus on the artist is increased. We then decided to add the masthead to the image and we colour coordinated it to the background and the artists (this will happen in ever issue that will be released). We used the font Dream orphans bold font, as it a clean and modern font that we know will attract readers and will be easy to read. We did this so that we can link the photo with the titles and the magazine name. We also added the website link in the top right corner in a blue colour so that it is visible but so it doesn't distract the readers from the initial image and future content written on the front cover. The price of the magazine was also added just under the masthead so that it is visible but again doesn't take away the readers attention from the image and the content of the magazine. We did this that we could meet the client brief and so we could fulfill every requirement that the client gave us.
We then added the artists name in Sunset Beach font as it has an RnB vibe to it and allows the artists name to stand out. We made it a red colour because it stand out from the white of the artists clothing and it links to the background of the image. We also added a stamp that attracts the readers straight to is but that then leads to the name of the artist. We also added onto the left hand side of the magazine what the content of the magazine will be in the same colour theme so that there is a link and a constant theme.
In this image you can see that we added a barcode so that when the issue is printed the readers can buy the magazine and we also added a link to new music buy one of the featured artists so that we could fill up dead space and so that the readers will want to buy the magazine. The writing is in black so that it doesn't bash and mix in with the background and other writing.
This is the final look for the magazine. We ended up changing the colors of the writing on the left hand side to a more blue colour so that it stands out more and so that it is easier to read. We also added a colored circle filled with writing on the top right corner so that the dead space was filled as so that the writing is clearer. As you can see we also added a black box and changed the writing to white at the bottom so that it was clearer to read and so that it filled more dead space. We also moved the price to on top of the barcode as it made more sense and looked more appropriate to have the price and the barcode of the magazine next to each other. We did this that we could meet the client brief and so we could fulfill every requirement that the client gave us.

This is the final design of our front cover, in which I have exported it using JPEG, because the client requirement asked us too do so. It is going to be used in the first issue of the magazine. In the image the featured artist is Tahlia Lorenz, she is an RnB artist from North London. We also included other artists that have short interviews and reviews on the from cover to show the type of content that we have inside the magazine. We chose this as the final design as it shows what the magazine contains inside and because it is eye catching due to the selection of colors, red, blue, white and black. This fills the client requirement as it showcases our original content and showcases the North London talent, and allows us to show meaning with the image and the content.

The editing team also used the editing tool on photos on a mac. They did this so that they could brighten up the image so that the artists could be seen more clearly. This was done so that the audience could possibly have a connection with the artists from the image and so that the artist looks better. Also so that the RnB vibe that the artist is representing can be shown clearly for the magazine and so that the North London aspect could also be represented clearly. This was represented by the grimy and graffiti look that is shown in the image.

In order to edit the front cover and the double page spread the editorial team used adobe photoshop, to edit the images, for example cropping and altering the image. It also allows us to include the content without overlaying the image and making the front cover and the double page spread look clean, eye catching and appealing also to make it look not busy and messy. This helped to showcase the magazines original content, which is a client requirement. Photoshop overall helps to create meaning to the front cover and the double page spread, as it allows us to add content that will have meaning and allows us to create something that the readers will enjoy and relate too.
Through out both the front cover and the double page spread the editing team used the text tool so that they could include the content on the front page that was planned, and to include the article that was created into the double page spread. The strengths of this tool is that it allows us to include content via text, as well as showcase and explain the content. However a weakness is that is can sometimes look messy depending on the type of font and color that is used, this then makes the magazine look unprofessional and messy. This tool is appropriate for the audience as it allows us to create the content and place the content on the page, which the audience then reads and connects too. This tool helped to showcase the magazines original content, which is a client requirement. This tool was used on both the front cover and the double page spread. It created a lot of meaning as it allowed me to write about that the magazine issue included as well as the actual article that is included on the double page spread.

For the front cover the editorial team used the shape tool to create the semi circle on the top right corner, which we then filled with content that is inside the magazine using the text tool. The strength of this tool is that is allows us to create more space to write on without looking messy and unprofessional. However a weakness is that if the shape is to big or too colorful it can take away and distract from the actual image, making the front cover look messy and unprofessional. This tool is appropriate for the audience as it allows us to create space for more content, this can then lead to the readers connecting to the material presented. This tool then helps to fulfill the client requirement as it showcases our original content and showcases the North London talent. For example I used this tool in the top right corner to create a circle so that I could include more information, which allowed me to create meaning, on the magazine without it look extremely messy and unorganized.

Another tool that the editorial team used is the crop tool to crop images and make them fit to the page so that the image could look better and fit better onto the page, which then allow the editors to fit the correct amount of text and interview articles on to the pages, which is a strength, for example fitting the correct amount of content on the front page to fill dead space but also not make the page look messy and busy. However a weakness is that the cropping tool doesn't allow to just crop for example the artist, which is sometimes needed. This tool is appropriate for the audience as it allows us to zoom and crop pictures to make the artist, which can then lead to the reader connecting with how the artist look like and with what they may be wearing. This tool then helps to fulfill the client requirement as it showcases our original content and showcases the North London talent. I used this tool on the front cover and the double page spread in order to zoom into the image more and make the RnB singer more prominent in the image and so that the writing does not distract the reader for the image of the artist, which allowed me to create the meaning of importance, power and influence the artist has in the RnB genre.
The final tool that they editorial team used is the color tool. They used it to
create colors for the front cover so that it can attract readers and is eye catching. It also allows them to make links between the image and the text written on the front cover. This then makes the image more relevant to the text and context written on the front cover. I used this tool on both the front cover and the double page spread. I used it to colour the text and to colour the circle on the front cover so that I could create a pleasing front cover and double page spread

In the image above it explains what tools the Editing team used on the front cover.
This is the original image that we used for the front cover. We used this photo because the artist is looking directly at the lens, making it seem like the model is looking directly at the reader. Also because the image is a straight mid-shot and the artist stands out from the colorful background the image itself without the titles attracts the primary target audience, which is 16-20 year olds. We did this that we could meet the client brief and so we could fulfill every requirement that the client gave us, for example showcasing the new talent in North London, creating original content and to create a front cover for a North London based music magazine.
This is the original image that we used for the double page spread. We used this photo because the artist is looking directly at the lens, making it seem like the artist is looking directly at the reader. Also because the image is a straight full body shot and the artist stands out from the colorful background the image itself without the the primary target audience and the readers having to read the content, for example showcasing the new talent in North London, creating original content and to create a double page spread for a North London based music magazine.
We decided to use the full photo instead of cropping it onto a solid colour background as it shows continuation of the double page spread and because it makes it clear that it is a double page spread. We then brightened up the photo so that it isn't as dark as it was before and because it makes the colors in the photo standout more, which then attracts the readers and the target audience. This was also done because the colors in the background fit to the color scheme we have created and give the vibe that the magazine is RnB themed, it represents the theme of RnB. We made the text on the double page spread as we wanted it to link to the artist so we made it clear that what was written and that the interview was about the artist without even having to read the text, we also did this as it stands out more than any other color. We did this that we could meet the client brief and so we could fulfill every requirement that the client gave us.

As you can see in the image the writing is white so that it is clearer to read and because it links the image to the text and to the artist due to white jumper she is wearing. We chose this as the final edit because it is a clear image with clear text that represents the artist and it gives the magazine that RnB vibe that we are persistent to include. This fills the client requirement as it showcases our original content and showcases the North London talent, and allows us to show meaning with the image and the content that is created and posted via the physical magazine cover and the online cover.
